It almost goes without saying that NFL teams with a rookie quarterback as their best option aren't very good. So in a league in which any team can turn it around quickly, avoiding the use of a rookie isn't just good for the rookie, it's good for the team. It gives you a far better chance of avoiding the top 10 in the draft the next season, and as it has so many times -- Aaron Rodgers, Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer and Tony Romo are more recent examples -- it allows your young quarterback a chance to digest the NFL game from the sideline as opposed to being force-fed under center.
