Mays, Snead are overrated
Mays is straight out of central casting, with 4.4 speed to match his 6-foot-4, 220-pound bodybuilder's frame. He also shows up in the highlight package with a big hit on a weekly basis. However, the list of concerns continues to grow every time I study him on tape. He doesn't always wrap up as a tackler. His recognition skills are spotty in deep zone coverage. Plus, why does Mays have only five interceptions in 44 games played behind a ridiculously fast pass rush that keeps the heat on opposing quarterbacks? Don't get me wrong; Mays is worth drafting in the first round. But all this talk of him in the top five overall is too rich for my blood. 2. QB Jevan Snead, Mississippi
Snead could win a neglect lawsuit against his offensive line. Still, the onus is on him to overcome the poor play around him, and that simply has not been the case in 2009. The lack of mental toughness and the erratic mechanics shown by Snead thus far have been alarming. He would be making a big mistake leaving school early for the 2010 draft because his stock has fallen to the mid-round range at this point.
