Aside from quarterback, we believe no position has more variables to consider when evaluating NFL potential than wide receiver. The two most important traits to evaluate are a receiver's ability to separate from coverage and catch the ball.

Generally speaking, it's much easier to evaluate a receiver's ability to catch the ball. Separation skills, on the other hand, can easily be miscalculated because of varying offensive systems and supporting casts. For example, schools with receiver-friendly, spread-formation offenses and/or precision passers under center are far more likely to produce busts than schools that run pro-style offenses.

Miami Hurricanes
Teams in the market for receivers and/or tight ends have had a great deal of success mining Miami for talent in recent years. In fact, it was the only school to have two of its alumni finish in the top 10 in receiving yardage in 2008. Andre Johnson led the league with 1,575 yards, and Reggie Wayne ranked 10th with 1,145 yards. Not to be outdone by the receivers, four Hurricanes tight ends have gone in the first round of the draft since 2000.
