The initial list of invitees for the scouting combine features some notable omissions and surprising inclusions.

The initial list of invitees for the 2006 NFL Scouting Combine has been released to the personnel departments of NFL teams. The current list includes 281 senior draft prospects from 99 schools. Combine officials will make a decision over the the next two weeks as to how many underclassmen will be included, and the official list of 300-plus eligible prospects will be circulated. With that in mind, the following is just an early look at some of the notable omissions, surprising inclusions, sleepers to monitor and prospects with the most to prove:

Notable omissions

Nichiren Flowers, WR, Nevada
If Flowers is not added to the list, it will be a shame. He has below-average speed, but his size, hands, route-running skills and outstanding production should have made him a no-brainer for the selection committee.

Aaron Harris, ILB, Texas
He lacks ideal size and speed, but Harris is an instinctive, powerful and quick linebacker who anchored one of the nation's best defenses this past season. He has enough potential to emerge as a versatile backup LB in the NFL while also contributing on special teams.
