Offensive Guard Specific Traits

Pass Protection4Possesses a wide base and very good core strength in this area. He is heavy handed and displays a powerful punch. Also has a strong base and can sink to anchor against most bull rush attempts. While he has the strength and ability to latch on and control rushers he is a bit heavy footed and can have problems moving laterally working against quicker rushers with the more space he is exposed to. Also can be more patient and sit back in sets as he has a tendency to lunge and become off balance and he lacks the natural feet to consistently recover when caught out of position.
Run Blocking3Lacks elite first step quickness and can clean up initial angles. On the other hand come off the ball with very good leverage and possesses a very good inline power base. Possesses heavy hands and a strong punch. Gets good leg drive upon contact and can get more than adequate movement on defenders at the point of attack in confined areas. Lateral agility is just average and can struggle at times when having to reach defenders from the backside. Takes quality angles to the second level but lacks prototypical athleticism to adjust on the move and consistently cover up defenders in space.
Awareness1A four-year starter and it shows on tape. He is instinctive in both pass pro and in the run game. Gets into sets quickly and keeps his head on swivel. Quickly recognizes defensive line movement and does a nice job of not panicking and maintaining strong position. In addition, he is consistent in blitz pick up. Locates and reacts quickly to pressures coming from the second and third level of defense. Assignment sound in the run game and does a nice job of identifying and locating targets at the second level.
Toughness2Plays with an edge and not afraid to mix it up. Works to sustain blocks and will finish when given the opportunity. Flashes a nasty side and will look to clean up piles at the end of plays.
