Saints still working on extension for Haslett

There are a lot more pressing issues facing the Saints. But coach Jim Haslett is still waiting to finalize a contract extension the club said he would receive two months ago.

We aren't about to suggest there are any silver linings for the New Orleans Saints. Having spent a couple days with displaced players and coaches last weekend, we know the cloud of uncertainty that has settled over the team remains an ominous one. But this time of insecurity could eventually -- in a somewhat convoluted way -- mean a little more security for head coach Jim Haslett.

Through general manager Mickey Loomis, the Saints once again, in the past week, quietly approached Haslett about the possibility of a contract extension, ESPN.com confirmed. Negotiations with Haslett's agent, Jimmy Sexton, haven't commenced. But it will take only one phone call to get talks moving again.
