In 1985, Chicago finished the regular season with the best run defense in the league and went on to win Super Bowl XX. Taking a look at that roster, it's easy to see why the Bears were so stout against the run. Massive RDT William Perry was impossible to move with one man and explosive LDT Steve McMichael complemented Perry very well.

Playing behind those two defensive tackles made MLB Mike Singletary that much more effective and few, if any players, matched his intensity level when he manned the middle of the field. With the middle of the defense making it difficult for teams to run inside, they had to attack the perimeter more and that gives the pursuit a little longer to get to the ball.

Here are the five teams that have the strongest interior run defenses in the league today.
