The legend of Alabama defensive end Marcell Dareus did not begin during the 2010 national championship game.
The comparisons to NFL and college stars didn't start when he knocked Texas quarterback Colt McCoy out of the game on the Longhorns' first offensive drive, and later spun, stiff-armed and rumbled for a 28-yard interception return before halftime.
The myths began at Lawson Field in Birmingham, Ala., on Oct. 25, 2007, in a game between Huffman High and Hewitt Trussville High. That was when Dareus, then a senior at Huffman, forged his way into the memories of several onlookers.
