Browns lukewarm on Clausen

You can understand Mike Holmgren's realization that the Browns probably aren't going to get a quarterback in the first round of this year's draft. The Browns draft seventh and Holmgren told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he wishes he liked Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen better than he does.

That doesn't mean Holmgren won't draft Clausen if he falls to the seventh pick, but it's certain the Browns won't be trading up to the third pick to take him. Holmgren also sounded pessimistic about getting Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford. At the very least, that would cost the Browns their first-rounder this year, a No. 2, next year's No. 1 and maybe something else. That's a lot.

Batch returning: Expect the Steelers to sign veteran backup quarterback Charlie Batch to a one-year contract once he returns from the NFLPA meeting he recently attended in Hawaii. Even though the Steelers are trying to develop Dennis Dixon as a backup, they still want the security of Batch. That still wouldn't prevent the Steelers from signing Byron Leftwich if he becomes available
