Expect tweaks to punt-return rules

After the season, look for the NFL to adjust the rules involving defenders who push blockers into punt returners. Redskins returner Antwaan Randle El was victim of such a play in the Week 5 loss to the Panthers, and the subsequent fumble gave Carolina the ball. There isn't a rule that penalizes the defender for the push, and similar plays have occurred this season. It will probably get fixed at the owners' meeting next March. Clifton's new replacement: It looks like the Daryn Colledge emergency plan at left tackle is over. Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday that fourth-round choice T.J. Lang is working at left tackle instead of Colledge, who struggled to fill in for the injured Chad Clifton for two games. Clifton might be able to play this week against the Lions, but Lang apparently has had enough work to prevent more reshuffling if Clifton can't go. Colledge, the left guard, moved to left tackle after Clifton's injury. Pass protection broke down significantly after that switch.
