Injuries piling up at left tackle
October, 13, 2009
What will be interesting to follow in Week 6 is how several teams overcome injuries at left tackle. The Patriots' Matt Light has a knee injury that could sidelined him for a couple of weeks, even though there doesn't appear to be major structural damage. Jared Gaither of the Ravens, Chris Samuels of the Redskins and Brandon Frye of the Seahawks have neck stingers. The Chiefs' Branden Albert suffered an ankle injury in Week 5. The left tackle protects the quarterback's blind side. The Redskins took tight end Chris Cooley out of the passing plays in Week 5 and kept him along the line to block. More teams may have to do the same. Around a dozen tight ends are currently on pace for at least 70-catch seasons, but some of those numbers might drop with so many left tackles banged up.
