The Seahawks got the best news possible on Tuesday when they learned starting center Chris Spencer won't need surgery on his sore shoulders.

Spencer visited Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., Monday and learned his shoulders could get better with rehab instead of an operation. Shoulder surgery for Spencer would have caused major problems on an offensive line that lost guard Steve Hutchinson last year and had center Robbie Tobeck retire after the season.

Spencer will spend the rest of the week in Birmingham rehabbing the shoulder before he returns to Seattle.
