Q: Why are the Carolina Panthers letting the best RB combo in the league go to waste? Surely it must be in the best interest of the players and the team to trade either DeAngelo Williams or Jonathan Stewart?
-- John (United Kingdom)
A: It's hardly going to waste, John. For starters, who do you want them to trade? They invested huge money in Williams and aren't about to trade him. Stewart just signed a $42.5 million contract extension that included $22.5 million guaranteed. Mike Tolbert was an inexpensive free-agent acquisition. If they wanted to trade any one of these backs, they wouldn't get back anything worth making them think about a deal. The strength of this team is the backfield. It's the deepest backfield in the NFL, and quite likely the best. Why would they want to do anything to it for a minimal return, which is the value that running backs have around the league? They're doing the right thing. They're keeping it together and they're attacking the season with some great backs.
Q: Adam, how good do you think the Seattle Seahawks' defense can be this season? I think they have the potential to be one of the elite defenses in the NFL and rival San Francisco's. Do you?
