South Carolina State inks two three-star defensive lineman

Defensive end Kendrick Frazier (Denmark, S.C./Denmark-Olar) and defensive tackle Curtis Hill (Blythewood, S.C.) both signed with South Carolina State Wednesday, according to the Times and Democrat.

Frazier, the nation's No. 57-rated player at his position, was recruited by South Carolina and Kentucky.

Three-star running back D.J. Howard signs with Clemson

D.J. Howard of Lincoln, Ala., rated as a three-star prospect in the Class of 2010, has signed with the Tigers over Kentucky.

The running back recently decommitted from Auburn. He also drew offers from Arkansas, Louisville and Mississippi State.

Howard rushed for 1500 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior.

Kentucky Wildcats sign four-star running back Brandon Gainer

Central (Miami, Fla.) running back Brandon Gainer has faxed his letter of intent to new head coach Joker Phillips of Kentucky on Signing Day.

Kentucky running backs coach Mark Higgs is a former Kentucky standout running back and has tutored Gainer for the past few years while at Central High School.

Gainer chose Kentucky over North Carolina, Central Florida and South Florida. He was also offered by Florida State, Louisville, Oregon and Texas Tech.

Alex Smith makes another switch, now on board with Kentucky

Three-star tight end Alex Smith (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) has decommitted from North Carolina and is now set to sign with Kentucky, ESPN affiliate Web site KentuckyInk.com reports.

"My biggest thing is playing early at whatever school I go to," Smith said. "I feel I will at Kentucky. I had a lot of faith in Coach Phillips and Coach Brooks, but with Coach Phillips getting the head-coaching job, and with them graduating three senior tight ends, the big need for them is a tight end. They have always recruited me hard since my sophomore year."

Smith originally committed to Cincinnati under former head coach Brian Kelly. Wisconsin, Michigan, LSU, Miami-FL, N.C. State, Purdue, Indiana, Tennessee, Illinois, Penn State, West Virginia and Ohio State were among his other offers.

Offensive lineman Kenarious Gates of Greenville, Ga., has decommitted from Kentucky to sign as part of Georgia's Class of 2010.

Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Troy and North Carolina State also offered the 6-foot-5, 300-pound prospect.

6-foot-5 quarterback Jamius Gunsby commits to South Florida

New head coach Skip Holtz of the Bulls has added Jamius Gunsby of LaGrange, Ga., for the Class of 2010.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Gunsby was also offered by Florida and Kentucky, among others.

Gunsby told the St. Petersburg Times prior to his trip, "I think I'm going to commit to South Florida when I go down there this weekend."

Commodores land touted three-star running back Rajaan Bennett

Vanderbilt has added a top running back to its 2010 class in Rajaan Bennett of McEachern (Powder Springs, Ga.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pound chose the Commodores over Tennessee, Kentucky and Western Kentucky.

Rated as a three-star prospect, Bennett also held offers from Wisconsin, Louisville, Marshall, Minnesota and East Carolina, among others.

A Class 5A All-State first team selection, Bennett rushed for 1875 yards and 29 touchdowns as a senior. McEachern had a 10-0 regular season and won the Region 5-5A championship.

Kentucky adds under-the-radar senior Farrington Huguenin

Defensive end Farrington Huguenin (Columbia, S.C./Dreher) committed to the SEC Wildcats Friday night, ESPN affiliate Web site KentuckyInk.com reports. FCS South Carolina State and North Carolina A&M also offered.

"I was waiting on Coach (Joker) Phillips to call tonight. I was hoping he would have good news, and I would hear about getting offered. He called just now and told me that they would sign me on signing day if I wanted. I told him that was great news, and it looks like I'll get my wish and be a Cat."

He registered 121 tackles, three forced fumbles and one interception this fall.

Huguenin posted an electronically-timed 4.9 40-yard dash on a slow surface, 4.27 20-yard shuttle, 31.6-inch vertical, 39-foot power thrown and 99.27 SPARQ at the Charlotte Nike Combine.

Corner Anterio Sloan no longer headed to Kentucky

Three-star cornerback Anterio Sloan (West Helena, Ark./Central) will not sign with the Wildcats, ESPN affiliate Web site KentuckyInk.com reports.

"I'm no longer committed to Kentucky," he said. "Actually, they have backed off. I don't have a scholarship offer there anymore."

Sloan continued, "What happened was, I had a shoulder injury from my 10th grade year that they examined when I visited. They don't think it's going to improve, that it's going to be a problem for me the rest of my career and something that may keep me from playing."

He originally picked Nebraska before Kentucky. Texas A&M, Mississippi State and Hawaii among others also recruited Sloan.

Commodores snare Florida defensive back Steven Clarke

Vanderbilt has picked up a commitment from cornerback Steven Clarke, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect from Boyd Anderson (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.).

Clarke also drew scholarship offers from Kentucky and West Virginia.

As a senior, he had 87 tackles and four interceptions.
