Defensive end D.J. Woods of Robinson (Tampa, Fla.) has signed with the Fighting Illini for the Class of 2010.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Woods was a late qualifier who originally committed to Savannah State (Ga.) and was offered by South Dakota.

Woods is the 21st member of Illinois' 2010 recruiting class.

Andre Dawson signs with Northern Iowa to stay close to home

Running back Andre Dawson (Cedar Rapids, Ia./Washington) signed with Northern Iowa Wednesday spurning multiple BCS-Conference scholarship offers.

The Sioux City Journal writes that Dawson, "signed with Northern Iowa in order to stay closer to his mother, Hilda Dawson, a breast cancer survivor who can't venture too far from home due to chemotherapy and radiation treatments."

Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Purdue and Wisconsin among others also recruited the 6-foot-1, 210-pound prospect.

Dawson has rushed for over 3,700 combined yards during his junior and senior seasons.

Four-star wide receiver Darius Millines (Delray Beach, Fla./American Heritage), who originally committed to West Virginia and then Marshall, has decided for Illinois of the Big Ten on Signing Day.

Several other schools offered including Wake Forest, Florida, Miami-Florida, Rutgers, Mississippi, North Carolina, Minnesota and Indiana.

6-foot-5, 270-pound offensive lineman Sean Hickey of Franklin Regional (Murrysville, Pa.), has pledged to sign with Syracuse's recruiting Class of 2010.

He also considering offers from Illinois and Boston College.

Among others were Eastern Michigan, Marshall and Ohio.

Safety Earnest Thomas of St. Mary's (Orchard Lake, Mich.), who recently decommitted from UCLA, has decided to sign with the Illini for the Class of 2010.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound prospect also drew offers from Indiana, Purdue, Louisville, Minnesota, Missouri, Penn State, Wisconsin, Stanford and Vanderbilt.

Louisiana offensive lineman Alex Hill cuts Blue Devils for Illinois

A 6-foot-3, 300-pound offensive center/guard prospect, Alex Hill of Slidell, La., has pledged to the Illini for the Class of 2010 and decommitted from Duke.

He was once committed to New Mexico before picking the Blue Devils.

Among his other offers were Illinois, Missouri, Texas A&M, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Monroe, Northern Illinois, SMU, Southern Mississippi and Tulane.

Glenbard South prospect Austin Teitsma accepts Illini scholarship

A 6-foot-3, 230-pound defensive end/tight end, Austin Teitsma of Glenbard South (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) has chosen Illinois.

Ball State, Indiana and Northern Illinois also offered.

"They have been recruiting him since the end of his sophomore year," Glenbard South coach Dan Starkey told the Chicago Tribune. "They offered him a little late, but he's glad they did."

Recruited as a fullback, Jay Prosch of UMS Wright (Mobile, Ala.) has given a Class of 2010 pledge to Illinois of the Big Ten.

He was also recruited by Louisiana Tech and Northern Illinois.

Dexter McDonald dumps Illini for Missouri, dumps Tigers for Kansas

A three-star cornerback, Dexter McDonald of Rockhurst (Kansas City, Mo.) has pledged to sign with the Jayhawks' recruiting Class of 2010 after decommitting from the Tigers.

McDonald (6-foot-2, 190-pounds) had been committed to Illinois before making the move to Missouri last week.

He has also been offered by Iowa State.

Three-star offensive tackle Danny Foose (Paramus, N.J./Catholic) verbally commits to Illinois, ESPN affiliate Web site NoleInsider.com reports.

Foose made official visits to the Illini, Florida State, Louisville and Central Florida.

Several other programs including Boston College, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Rutgers, South Carolina and South Florida also recruited the 6-foot-6, 300-pound senior.
