Andre Dawson signs with Northern Iowa to stay close to home

Running back Andre Dawson (Cedar Rapids, Ia./Washington) signed with Northern Iowa Wednesday spurning multiple BCS-Conference scholarship offers.

The Sioux City Journal writes that Dawson, "signed with Northern Iowa in order to stay closer to his mother, Hilda Dawson, a breast cancer survivor who can't venture too far from home due to chemotherapy and radiation treatments."

Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Purdue and Wisconsin among others also recruited the 6-foot-1, 210-pound prospect.

Dawson has rushed for over 3,700 combined yards during his junior and senior seasons.

Three-star receiver Isaiah Williams of Monsignor Pace (Miami, Fla.) has accepted a scholarship offer from Wisconsin for the Class of 2010 and decommitted from Purdue.

Williams also has offers from Florida International, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Marshall and South Florida.

Highly-recruited defensive end Rashad Frazier picks Boilermakers

Purdue has landed a 6-foot-5, 220-pound defensive end for the Class of 2010 in Rashad Frazier of Middletown, Ohio.

Frazier picked the Boilermakers over Michigan State, Wisconsin and West Virginia. He also has offers from Bowling Green, Kent State and Miami-Ohio.

Wisconsin draws lineman Joe McNamara from the Deep South

A 6-foot-2, 275-pound defensive/offensive lineman, Joe McNamara of Cypress Bay (Weston, Fla.) has accepted a Class of 2010 scholarship offer from the Badgers.

A former Stanford commitment, McNamara choose Wisconsin over offers from FAU, FIU and Marshall.

McNamara tore an ACL, causing him to miss the entire 2009 season. After his injury, he lost offers from Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, Iowa State and Vanderbilt.

"I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason," McNamara told madison.com. "Wisconsin came into the picture for a reason. I guess it turned out, the reason was, I was going to go there."

Touted defensive lineman Bruce Gaston commits to the Boilers

Purdue has landed a huge commitment for its recruiting Class of 2010 in three-star prospect defensive tackle Bruce Gaston of St. Rita (Chicago, Ill.).

The 6-foot-3, 305-pound standout chose the Boilermakers over Michigan State, Notre Dame, Boston College, Wisconsin and Iowa.

"It was just a comfort level that I always seemed to have when I visited Purdue," Gaston told the Chicago Tribune. "I can see myself 40 years from now looking back and being glad I chose to go to Purdue."

He was also offered by Illinois, Arizona, Indiana, Penn State, Minnesota and Virginia, among many others.

Irish jump into the mix for junior DaVaris Daniels

2011 wide receiver DaVaris Daniels (Vernon Hills, Ill.) has received a scholarship offer from Notre Dame, ESPN affiliate Web site IrishSportsDaily.com reports.

Illinois, Miami-FL, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Iowa have also offered the 6-foot-2, 165-pound ESPNU 150 Watch List talent.

"(Notre Dame assistant coach Chuck Martin) was talking about how coach Kelly has never really had real wide receivers, people that have always played that position, but transferred over and he made that work. He showed he can do it with people that had to learn the receiver spot, imagine what he could do with you."

Daniels' father is NFL defensive lineman Phillip Daniels. His godfather is Andre Jones, the father of Irish freshman receiver Tai-ler Jones. The two grew up together before Daniels moved away from Georgia.

He caught 10 touchdown passes as a junior while also seeing time at quarterback.

Buckeyes, Irish offer 2011 WR Evan Spencer

Junior talent Evan Spencer (Vernon Hills, Ill.) recently picked up scholarship offers from Notre Dame and Ohio State, ESPN affiliate Web site IrishSportsDaily.com reports.

Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska have also offered the 6-foot, 178-pound prospect with Buckeye ties. Both his parents went to Ohio State and his father Tim played in the Horseshoe.

"I don't have any leader," Spencer stated. "When I was five and younger, I always dreamed of playing there (at Ohio State). Now I'm extremely open minded. I'm not going to put them over anyone else because my dad went there and my parents went there. I'm not the type of person where they offer me and I'm committing right now. I'm definitely going to wait and look at all my options."

6-foot-7, 315-pound offensive lineman Jake Kaufman of St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City, N.J.) has pledged to the Bulls and new head coach Skip Holtz.

He was also offered by Rutgers, Wisconsin and Stanford.

"After the meeting with Coach Holtz, I knew this was the right place for me," Kaufman told the St. Petersburg Times.

Safety Adrian Lee (Dallas/Skyline) committed to sign as part of California's Class of 2010 Thursday night, ESPN's Gerry Hamilton reports.

He selected the Bears over Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Utah.

Several other programs including Notre Dame, Kansas, Iowa State, SMU, UTEP, Louisiana Tech and Tulsa also offered.

Florida defender Clarence Murphy decides for Maryland

Three-star defensive end Clarence Murphy of Hollywood Hills (Hollywood, Fla.) has pledged to the Terps for the Class of 2010.

Murphy, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound prospect, also considered offers from Michigan, Wisconsin, Colorado State, South Florida and Florida International.

"They were the first big school to come after me," Murphy told the Baltimore Sun. "It was a good experience when they first talked to me and when I went on my visit and they came to visit me at my home and school. I just really fell in love with the coaching staff and the players. I just really felt comfortable with Maryland."

Maryland has 19 commitments.
