Tyler Arndt (Cuero, Texas), the No. 32-rated quarterback in the nation, signed with FCS Texas State Wednesday, the San Marcos Daily Record reports.

Missouri, Vanderbilt, TCU, Houston and Rice extended scholarship offers to Arndt.

"Tyler is one those guys who we feel very fortunate in getting when you see the list of schools that offered him," head coach Brad Wright said. "We really feel like he can come in here and be a difference maker right away if he can handle the mental part of it."

Notre Dame tops TCU for ex-Colorado pledge Danny Spond

Three-star athlete Danny Spond (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) selected Notre Dame over TCU following an official visit to South Bend this weekend, ESPN affiliate Web site IrishSportsDaily.com reports.

"Playing for Notre Dame is a true honor," Spond said. "I have been blessed by god for this opportunity. Coach Kelly is not only an awesome coach, but a great man. I look forward to being apart of the Notre Dame tradition. It's my next home. I have god to thank for it and my ability."

Stanford, Duke and Wyoming also offered Spond, who originally committed to Colorado.

He accounted for 883 yards and 14 touchdowns before having his season cut short by a head injury.

Little Elm, Texas, defensive end Clifton Murphy has decided to play for TCU just one day after giving a Class of 2010 commitment to SMU.

Murphy (6-foot-5, 230-pounds), who plans to grayshirt at TCU, also has offers from Colorado State, New Mexico State and UTEP.

Lone Star State sleeper Mykkele Thompson emerges

2011 athlete Mykkele Thompson (San Antonio, Texas/Stevens) is picking up steam on the recruiting trail, ESPN affiliate Web site InsideTexas.com reports.

Houston, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, SMU, TCU and Texas A&M have made trips to Stevens to check out the 6-foot-1, 175-pound talent.

Additionally, the Texas Longhorns have extended a junior day invitation to Thompson.

Last fall he caught 31 passes for 428 yards, rushed for 760 yards and threw for 322 yards accounting for 15 total scores. Thompson has also run a 10.66 100-meter.

Rated a three-star wideout, Chris Hawkins of Channelview, Texas, has pledged to TCU for the Class of 2010.

The 6-foot-1, 165-pound standout had originally picked Minnesota of the Big Ten.

Hawkins, who had more than 20 other offers, was also sought by Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Nebraska, Tulsa and Utah, among others.

As a senior, he had 27 receptions for 656 yards (24.3 average) and 10 touchdowns.

Three-star signal-caller Matt Brown switches from Arizona to TCU

6-foot-1, 175-pound quarterback Matt Brown of Allen, Texas, has committed to sign with the Horned Frogs' Class of 2010 after withdrawing his pledge to Arizona.

He told ESPN affiliate Web site WildcatSportsReport.com, ""Odds of going to TCU are at 90 to 10 right now. I just think TCU is better for me and my family."

Other programs such as Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Oregon, Iowa State, Iowa and Colorado were also recruiting Brown.

TCU snares Texas athlete Antonio Graves from Louisiana Tech

From Pleasant Grove (Texarkana, Texas), Antonio Graves has accepted a Class of 2010 offer from the Horned Frogs.

Graves, who decommitted from Louisiana Tech, also had an offer from Baylor.

Although he played quarterback as a prep, Graves was recruited as an athlete by TCU.

Louisiana-Lafayette strikes into Texas for receiver Josey Nwankwo

6-foot-2, 175-pound wide receiver Josey Nwankwo of Horn (Mesquite, Texas) has accepted a Class of 2010 offer from the Cajuns.

He was also recruited by TCU, Baylor, Houston and North Texas.

Nwanko ran an electronically-timed 5.2 40-yard dash, 4.6 20-yard shuttle and 30.1-inch vertical at the Dallas Nike Combine.

Southern Lab's Taurean Nixon accepts offer from Memphis

Memphis and new head coach Larry Porter have added a Class of 2010 commitment from Taurean Nixon of Southern Lab (Baton Rouge, La.).

Nixon, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound cornerback, picked the Tigers over offers from TCU, Arkansas State, Houston, Louisiana-Lafayette and New Mexico.

During his senior season, Nixon earned all-state and All-Metro honors. The District 6-1A Defensive MVP also returned nine kickoffs and punts for touchdowns.

The president of Southern Lab's student body, he carries a 4.0 grade-point average.

ESPNU 150 Watch List tight end Chris Barnett names five favorites

6-foot-5, 235-pound junior Chris Barnett (Euless, Texas/Trinity) listed his leaders for ESPN affiliate Web site InsideTheU.com.

"I keep it really open but as far as the top five schools I'm considering, it can change at any moment," Barnett said. "It's based on who is recruiting me the hardest so it would probably be Tennessee, TCU, Miami, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State."

He also revealed a potential time-frame for his decision, "I was considering waiting longer, but I would like to go into the summer knowing where I'm going to school. I could see myself committing in the next few months, maybe even next month. I know there's a lot of junior days coming up so if I go to one and it goes well, it might be a commitment."

The in-state Texas Longhorns are one school that is recruiting Barnett but does not extend early scholarship offers to juniors.
