Virginia has added its second pledge for the Class of 2011 in Matt Bailey, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound defensive back from Edna Karr (New Orleans, La.).

He joins receiver Adrian Gamble of Independence (Charlotte, N.C.), as early commitments for the Cavs.

Three-star safety Kyrrel Latimer (Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha) remains committed to Virginia but did not sign with the Cavs on Wednesday.

According to the Daily Progress, Latimer needs to spend time at a prep school to improve his academic standing before enrolling at Virginia.

Cavaliers dip into Texas for tight end Zach Swanson

Three-star tight end Zach Swanson (Katy, Texas) committed to sign with Virginia Monday night, ESPN's Gerry Hamilton reports.

Swanson, who originally committed to Stanford, picked the Cavaliers over Baylor and Army.

Illinois, Miami-FL, California, Oklahoma State, Colorado, Arkansas, Air Force and Rice also recruited the 6-foot-7, 220-pounder.

Quarterback Mike Rocco drops Louisville and chooses Virginia

Mike Rocco, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound quarterback from Liberty Christian Academy (Lynchburg, Va.), has decommitted from the Cardinals and pledged to Virginia.

Rocco, who missed most of his senior season because of a broken left (non-throwing) arm and wrist, also had a scholarship offer from Liberty and a greyshirt offer from Penn State.

He passed for 2066 yards and 24 touchdowns, and added seven rushing touchdowns, as a junior.

Virginia has gained three-star Stephen Lawe of Maury (Norfolk, Va.) for its recruiting Class of 2010.

The 6-foot-5, 285-pound offensive line prospect was also offered by Memphis.

Quarterback Jake McGee follows head coach Mike London to Cavs

Jake McGee of The Collegiate School (Richmond, Va.), who originally committed to Richmond and then head coach Mike London, has now pledged to Virginia for the Class of 2010.

London recently was named the new coach for the Cavs. "I'm just going up there to try to get on the field," McGee told the Richmond Times Dispatch. "(London) said I could start there and we'll see what's best for the team."

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound McGee led Collegiate to a second straight Private School championship in 2009 with a 48-28 victory over Liberty Christian Academy. McGee completed 21 of 32 passes for 251 yards and four touchdowns in the game. He added 145 rushing yards and three scores, plus he had an interception in the end zone from his safety position.

Georgia quarterback Miles Gooch switches from Rockets to Virginia

A 6-foot-4, 215-pound quarterback from Towers (Decatur, Ga.), Miles Gooch has accepted a Class of 2010 offer from new head coach Mike London of the Cavs and decommitted from Toledo.

He had picked the Rockets over Western Kentucky.

As a senior, Gooch passed for more than 2400 yards and 19 touchdowns. He rushed for over 500 yards and 12 scores.

Yellow Jackets win recruiting war for pass rusher Jeremiah Attaochu

Three-star 6-foot-3, 225-pound outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu of Archbishop Carroll (Washington, D.C.) has committed to Georgia Tech for the Class of 2010.

He chose the Yellow Jackets over Maryland, Illinois, Kansas State, Louisville, Virginia and Syracuse.

"I got to know him while Coach Groh he was at Virginia," Attaochu told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "He's known for his defense and coaching outside linebackers all over the league. I was a defensive end in high school but he felt like I was the right guy to be an outside linebacker. He has three things in his criteria for an outside linebacker: It's being able to beat a tight end, being able to rush the passer and being functional in space. That's how he puts it."

Several other programs including Minnesota, Ohio, Boston College, Temple, East Carolina, Akron and Kent State have also offered.

Hargrave running back Alex Owah to play for East Carolina

A three-star 5-foot-11, 190-pound running back from Harrisonburg, Va./Hargrave Military Academy, Va., Alex Owah has committed to the Pirates for the Class of 2010.

Memphis, Virginia and Virginia Tech also offered. He was once set for the Cavs.

East Carolina now has 18 pledges.

Three-star safety Ed Reynolds decides for Pac-10 Stanford

A 6-foot-2, 195-pound safety, Ed Reynolds of Woodberry Forest School (Woodberry Forest, Va.) has given a Class of 2010 pledge to the Cardinal.

The three-star prospect also considered Duke and North Carolina. He was also offered by Virginia and North Carolina State.

His roommate and close friend at Woodberry Forest, outside linebacker Aramide Olaniyan, recently added his name to the UCLA class.
