JUCO Kenbrell Thompkins awaiting release from Tennessee

Touted El Camino College (Torrance, Calif.) wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins did not sign Wednesday and is still awaiting his release from Tennessee, ESPN affiliate Web site DuckTerritory.com reports.

Originally from Miami, Fla., Thompkins signed with the Volunteers during the early period prior to the coaching change.

He caught 69 passes for 1,020 yards (14.8 average) and nine touchdowns during the 2009 season. In 2008, he caught 42 balls for 746 yards (17.8 average) and five scores.

Thompkins is now considering Oregon, Oklahoma, Nebraska and California.

Allen recently decommitted from Alabama and also considered Clemson and Penn State.

California also received a signature from four-star defensive end Chris McCain (Greensboro, N.C./Central Carolina Sports Academy) who decommitted from Oregon.

Touted defensive end Gabe King of South Eugene (Eugene, Ore.) has joined the California Bears on Signing Day.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound King also had offers from Oregon, North Carolina, Michigan, UCLA, Alabama, USC, North Carolina State, Tennessee, Auburn and Clemson, among others.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Akuna also had offers from Oregon, Florida State, Arkansas, California, Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, West Virginia and Hawaii.

Rated as a three-star defensive back prospect, Anthony Jefferson of Cathedral (Los Angeles, Calif.) has signed with UCLA for the Class of 2010. Jefferson (6-foot-2, 180-pounds) picked the Bruins over Arizona, Oregon and California.

"I'm really excited to be a Bruin," Jefferson told ESPN's Greg Biggins. "I really think they have what it takes to turn the program around and I'm looking forward to being a part of that. UCLA is close to home and it means a lot to me that my friends and family will be able to come and watch me play."

He was also offered by Arizona State, Oklahoma, San Diego State, Tennessee, Southern California and Washington.

The Pac-10 Bears have added another wideout/return specialist for the Class of 2010 in Coleman Edmond of Kingston, N.Y./Pierce CC, Calif.

UCLA had also offered the 6-foot-0, 200-pound prospect.

During 2009, Edmond led all Southern California JC players with 1584 all-purpose yards, including 37 receptions, four rushes, 19 punt returns and 20 kickoff returns.

California picks up Long Beach Poly product Kaelin Clay

Senior receiver Kaelin Clay (Long Beach, Calif./Poly) has committed to the in-state Cal Bears, ESPN's Greg Biggins reports.

Clay made an official visit to Hawaii last weekend and was scheduled to visit Fresno State. Utah State also extended a scholarship offer.

"I had a great time on the visit and when they decided to offer me a scholarship, I basically committed almost on the spot. I told myself before the visit that if Cal offered and I was comfortable there, I would go ahead and jump on it and that's what happened. I talked with Coach (Jeff) Tedford and he's a real good guy. They have some big plans for me and I'm excited to be a Bear," he said.

Clay caught 24 passes for 459 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 548 yards and six more scores this fall.

Cal Bears grab another receiver in Terrance Montgomery

5-foot-11, 180-pound senior wide receiver Terrance Montgomery (Los Angeles/West Adams) has committed to Cal, ESPN's Greg Biggins reports.

"I'm a Bear," he said. "I'm so excited to be going to Cal with all their prestige and tradition. Signing day is just a week and a half away and I was starting to get a little stressed out. No one else had offered a scholarship or even a visit and then all of a sudden, I got the call from Cal about coming up this weekend."

Montgomery caught 42 passes for just over 700 yards and 13 touchdowns this fall, earning first team all-city honors.

He posted an electronically-timed 4.86 40-yard dash, 4.42 20-yard shuttle and 28.7-inch vertical at the Los Angeles Nike Combine prior to his senior year.

Wide receiver Josh Harper drops Cal in favor of Fresno State

Three-star prospect Josh Harper (Stockton, Calif./St. Mary's) has decommitted from Cal and is now set to play for Fresno State, ESPN's Greg Biggins reports.

"Cal is a great school and I know I would have been happy there," Harper said. "It was nothing against Cal, I just felt like Fresno State was a better fit and I felt like I would have a better opportunity to play right away there as well."

He also seriously considered Oregon State. Arizona State, Oregon, UCLA, Washington, Washington State, Stanford and UNLV were among his other offers.
