Tyler Arndt selects Texas State over FBS programs

Tyler Arndt (Cuero, Texas), the No. 32-rated quarterback in the nation, signed with FCS Texas State Wednesday, the San Marcos Daily Record reports.

Missouri, Vanderbilt, TCU, Houston and Rice extended scholarship offers to Arndt.

"Tyler is one those guys who we feel very fortunate in getting when you see the list of schools that offered him," head coach Brad Wright said. "We really feel like he can come in here and be a difference maker right away if he can handle the mental part of it."

A 6-foot-1, 170-pound wide receiver, Mario Hull of Rice Consolidated (Altair, Texas) has picked the Owls for the Class of 2010.

Hull was also sought by Louisiana-Lafayette.

Fred Jackson, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound defensive back from Eisenhower (Houston, Texas), has picked Rice for the Class of 2010.

Among his other offers were Air Force, Army, Navy and Louisiana-Monroe.

Defensive end/offensive tackle athlete Andrew Bridges of Westminster School (Atlanta, Ga.,) has picked Vanderbilt for the Class of 2010.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Bridges was also sought by Kentucky, North Carolina State and Rice.

6-foot-5 wide receiver Jordan Taylor is headed to Rice

The Owls have a Class of 2010 commitment from wideout Jordan Taylor of Denison, Texas.

Taylor also considered Northwestern, North Texas and Utah.

He played receiver as a sophomore (29 receptions for 575 yards and 11 touchdowns) before moving to quarterback for the next two seasons. As a senior, Taylor passed for 2450 yards and 27 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1358 yards and 23 scores.

Rice gains Abilene offensive lineman Drew Carroll for 2010

From Abilene, Texas, Drew Carroll has accepted a Class of 2010 scholarship offer from the Owls.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound prospect was recruited as an offensive lineman.

He received all-state recognition for his performance as a senior.

Highly-sought defensive back Bryce Callahan set for Rice

A 5-foot-11, 170-pound cornerback, Bryce Callahan of Cypress Woods (Cypress, Texas) has chosen the Owls for the Class of 2010.

Among his other offers are Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Colorado, Kentucky, Tulsa, UTEP, Air Force and Miami-Ohio.

Callahan was a Class 5A First Team All-State selection as a senior. He registered 120 tackles, 10 pass breakups and six interceptions.

Jeremy Eddington switches from Rice to Boilermakers to Rice

The Owls have regained a Class of 2010 pledge from Jeremy Eddington, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound athlete from Chisum (Paris, Texas).

Eddington had decommitted from Rice for Purdue, but has pledged to the Owls for a second time . He was also recruited by Texas Tech, Tulsa and North Texas.

The athlete played mostly quarterback for Chisum during his senior season, but is expected to be used at running back or receiver in college. Eddington rushed for 18 touchdowns and over 1,400 yards, while passing for two scores. He also caught three passes and scored twice.

Trevor Gillette on board with the Owls

Rice has picked up a Class of 2010 commitment from Trevor Gillette, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound tight end/defensive end from Lake Travis (Austin, Texas).

Gillette, also considered a top long-snapper, chose the Owls over Texas San-Antonio.
