Tyler Arndt selects Texas State over FBS programs

Tyler Arndt (Cuero, Texas), the No. 32-rated quarterback in the nation, signed with FCS Texas State Wednesday, the San Marcos Daily Record reports.

Missouri, Vanderbilt, TCU, Houston and Rice extended scholarship offers to Arndt.

"Tyler is one those guys who we feel very fortunate in getting when you see the list of schools that offered him," head coach Brad Wright said. "We really feel like he can come in here and be a difference maker right away if he can handle the mental part of it."

Gamecocks flip Sharrod Golightly after official visit

Reliable sources have told ESPN affiliate Web site TheBigSpur.com that defensive back Sharrod Golightly (Decatur, Ga./Southwest DeKalb) has committed to South Carolina and will sign with the Gamecocks on Wednesday.

The former Vanderbilt commit informed the Commodores coaches of his decision on Monday night. Golightly visited South Carolina officially during the weekend.

Ole Miss, N.C. State, UAB, New Mexico also extended scholarship offers.

Three-star running back Brandon Bourbon swaps Stanford for Jayhawks

Brandon Bourbon, a 6-foot-2, 205- pound running back out of Potosi, Mo., has picked Kansas for the Class of 2010.

The three-star prospect decommitted from the Stanford Cardinal. He also considered Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, BYU, Kansas State, Missouri and Harvard.

"The big thing was the distance," Bourbon told ESPN affiliate Web site TheShiver.com. "I thought at first I would be tough and deal with the distance, but I started think that if I came to KU, my parents would be able to come to a lot of games or at least see them on T.V."

Commodores land touted three-star running back Rajaan Bennett

Vanderbilt has added a top running back to its 2010 class in Rajaan Bennett of McEachern (Powder Springs, Ga.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pound chose the Commodores over Tennessee, Kentucky and Western Kentucky.

Rated as a three-star prospect, Bennett also held offers from Wisconsin, Louisville, Marshall, Minnesota and East Carolina, among others.

A Class 5A All-State first team selection, Bennett rushed for 1875 yards and 29 touchdowns as a senior. McEachern had a 10-0 regular season and won the Region 5-5A championship.

Tucker athlete Chris Sanders becomes Georgia's first 2011 recruit

ESPNU 150 Watch List Chris Sanders, a 6-foot-0, 175-pound athlete from Tucker, Ga., has committed to the Bulldogs for the Class of 2011.

Projected as a safety, Sanders chose Georgia over West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Duke, Central Florida and Southern Mississippi.

"It feels good," Sanders told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I just thought it would be good for my family and it's my hometown. I also think about Asher [Allen] and Thomas [Brown] came from the same high and played at UGA.. So its an honor and I thank God for it."

Georgia QB Nash Nance swaps Commodores for Tennessee

6-foot-4, 205-pound passing standout Nash Nance of Calhoun, Ga., has announced he will be a Tennessee Volunteer in the Class of 2010 and has decommitted from Vanderbilt.

Nance, who threw for 3018 yards and 29 touchdowns as a senior, was also offered by Arkansas, East Carolina, Louisville, Mississippi State, Central Florida and West Virginia.

"After visiting Tennessee on Jan. 22-23 and hours of prayer I feel that Tennessee is the better fit for me," Nance said in a statement released to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Thursday afternoon. "Coach [Derek] Dooley has all the confidence in me and my abilities. [He] had already broken down my junior and senior film and really likes my abilities and future as a Vol."

Rebels capture three-star defensive end Carlos Thompson

Three-star prospect Carlos Thompson of Simmons School (Hollandale, Miss.), has chosen Mississippi for the Class of 2010.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound standout chose Ole Miss over Mississippi State, Baylor, Memphis, North Carolina, Southern Mississippi and Vanderbilt.

"He really liked the atmosphere at Ole Miss," said his dad and high school coach Carlos Thompson Sr. "He looked at the depth chart, saw he would have a chance to contribute pretty soon and just really got along with coach (Houston) Nutt, coach (Tyrone) Nix and coach (Terry) Price," the Clarion-Ledger reports.

He was a Second Team Class 2A All-State selection as a senior.

Prior to his senior season, Thompson posted an electronically-timed 4.95 40-yard dash, 4.55 20-yard shuttle, 25-inch vertical, 38-foot power throw and 89.16 SPARQ.

Ohio kicker Carey Spear accepts offer from Commodores

The Vanderbilt coaching staff has secured a pledge from three-star kicking specialist Carey Spear of Mayfield (Highland Heights, Ohio) for the Class of 2010.

Ball State, Miami-Ohio and Air Force had also offered.

A two-time All-Ohio selection, Spear gained national notice by kicking a 61-yard field goal on a free kick to tie a state record. He converted on 13-of-21 field goals and averaged 42 yards a punt. The prospect also had 75 touchbacks on kickoffs during his last two seasons.

Commodores snare Florida defensive back Steven Clarke

Vanderbilt has picked up a commitment from cornerback Steven Clarke, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect from Boyd Anderson (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.).

Clarke also drew scholarship offers from Kentucky and West Virginia.

As a senior, he had 87 tackles and four interceptions.

Defensive end/offensive tackle athlete Andrew Bridges of Westminster School (Atlanta, Ga.,) has picked Vanderbilt for the Class of 2010.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Bridges was also sought by Kentucky, North Carolina State and Rice.
