Andre Dawson signs with Northern Iowa to stay close to home

Running back Andre Dawson (Cedar Rapids, Ia./Washington) signed with Northern Iowa Wednesday spurning multiple BCS-Conference scholarship offers.

The Sioux City Journal writes that Dawson, "signed with Northern Iowa in order to stay closer to his mother, Hilda Dawson, a breast cancer survivor who can't venture too far from home due to chemotherapy and radiation treatments."

Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Purdue and Wisconsin among others also recruited the 6-foot-1, 210-pound prospect.

Dawson has rushed for over 3,700 combined yards during his junior and senior seasons.

Touted defensive lineman Bruce Gaston commits to the Boilers

Purdue has landed a huge commitment for its recruiting Class of 2010 in three-star prospect defensive tackle Bruce Gaston of St. Rita (Chicago, Ill.).

The 6-foot-3, 305-pound standout chose the Boilermakers over Michigan State, Notre Dame, Boston College, Wisconsin and Iowa.

"It was just a comfort level that I always seemed to have when I visited Purdue," Gaston told the Chicago Tribune. "I can see myself 40 years from now looking back and being glad I chose to go to Purdue."

He was also offered by Illinois, Arizona, Indiana, Penn State, Minnesota and Virginia, among many others.

Irish jump into the mix for junior DaVaris Daniels

2011 wide receiver DaVaris Daniels (Vernon Hills, Ill.) has received a scholarship offer from Notre Dame, ESPN affiliate Web site IrishSportsDaily.com reports.

Illinois, Miami-FL, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Iowa have also offered the 6-foot-2, 165-pound ESPNU 150 Watch List talent.

"(Notre Dame assistant coach Chuck Martin) was talking about how coach Kelly has never really had real wide receivers, people that have always played that position, but transferred over and he made that work. He showed he can do it with people that had to learn the receiver spot, imagine what he could do with you."

Daniels' father is NFL defensive lineman Phillip Daniels. His godfather is Andre Jones, the father of Irish freshman receiver Tai-ler Jones. The two grew up together before Daniels moved away from Georgia.

He caught 10 touchdown passes as a junior while also seeing time at quarterback.

Buckeyes, Irish offer 2011 WR Evan Spencer

Junior talent Evan Spencer (Vernon Hills, Ill.) recently picked up scholarship offers from Notre Dame and Ohio State, ESPN affiliate Web site IrishSportsDaily.com reports.

Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska have also offered the 6-foot, 178-pound prospect with Buckeye ties. Both his parents went to Ohio State and his father Tim played in the Horseshoe.

"I don't have any leader," Spencer stated. "When I was five and younger, I always dreamed of playing there (at Ohio State). Now I'm extremely open minded. I'm not going to put them over anyone else because my dad went there and my parents went there. I'm not the type of person where they offer me and I'm committing right now. I'm definitely going to wait and look at all my options."

The Hawkeyes snare Ohio defensive back Anthony Hitchens

Recruited as a safety, Anthony Hitchens of Clearview (Lorain, Ohio) has accepted a Class of 2010 offer from Iowa.

The 6-foot-0, 195-pound prospect was also offered by Kansas, Indiana, Akron and Eastern Michigan.

As a senior, Hitchens rushed for over 1400 yards and 21 touchdowns. He had 76 tackles and two interceptions on defense.

Hitchens is the 20th commitment for the Hawkeyes.

Notre Dame interested in Jeremy Ioane

Punahou School (Honolulu) safety Jeremy Ioane has scheduled an official visit with Notre Dame for Jan. 29th where he could pick up a scholarship offer, ESPN affiliate Web site IrishSportsDaily.com reports.

Two of his former high school teammates, linebacker Manti Te'o and receiver Roby Toma currently play for the Irish.

"I think going out to visit Notre Dame would give me more insight into what kind of program they have, and kind of get to learn more about Notre Dame. I've been talking to Roby a lot and he's been saying good stuff about the players and the coaches. I've been kind of keeping in touch with them lately."

Washington and Boise State are currently at the top of Ioane's list. Stanford, Utah and Washington State have also offered. Additionally, Ioane may take an official visit to Iowa.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound senior earned all-state recognition for his performance this fall.

Texas running back Duran Hollis picks the Big 12 Cyclones

Iowa State has a commitment from Duran Hollis, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound running back/athlete from Polytech (Fort Worth, Texas) for the Class of 2010.

Baylor, Houston, Iowa, Tulane, Tulsa, UTEP and Western Kentucky also made offers.

Hollis rushed for 1219 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior.

Eagles add local product Dominique Williams

Boston College has added a Class of 2010 commitment from Dominique Williams, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound defensive back from Brockton, Mass.

Williams also drew interest from Maryland, Iowa and Syracuse.

He told the Boston Herald via email, "The deciding factors, were the fact that growing up as a kid my uncle Michael Williams played football at BC and I was always around him. So my whole life I've had a strong love for BC. Having this happen, is a dream come true."

"The BC coaches also expressed a lot of interest in me and I feel like this program, is a place where I can succeed. Their coaching styles are very similar to those at Brockton High School. This makes me feel at home."

"Boston College is also a place where I will be offered a great education and a great opportunity to work in the future. When I visited the campus in the sun, I was amazed by the size and the social life. It was a no brainer committing to Boston College, I made no hesitation when i committed."

Iowa has gained a Class of 2010 pledge from three-star Brother Rice (Bloomfield, Mich.), receiver Kevonte Martin-Manley.

The 6-foot-0, 190-pound prospect chose the Big Ten Hawks after decommitting from Bowling Green. He was also sought by Central Michigan and Toledo.

As a senior, Martin-Manley caught 43 passes for 745 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Defensive lineman Matt Hoch changes from Hawks to Tigers

Missouri has gained defensive end Matt Hoch of Harlan, Iowa, who decommitted from Iowa

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Hock also had offers from Stanford, Iowa State and Kansas State. His older brother, Dan, signed with the Tigers in 2008.

Missouri now has 22 commitments for the Class of 2010.
