Wide receiver Antonio Belt (Forestville, Md./Military) has committed to sign with Temple, ESPN affiliate Web site InsideMDSports.com reports.

He selected the Owls over a scholarship offer from Maryland. Michigan State also showed interest.

Marvin Staten, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound running back/linebacker from Tottenville (Staten Island, N.Y.), has committed to Akron's recruiting Class of 2010.

Staten, who also drew an offer from Temple, rushed for 1242 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior.

East Coast wideout Joshua Ford drops Lobos for Temple

Coolidge (Washington, D.C.) wide receiver Joshua Ford has picked the Temple Owls for the Class of 2010.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Ford, who decommitted from his original commitment to New Mexico, was also sought by Kansas and Utah. He had 23 receptions for 494 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior.

Owls to bring in JUCO pass-catcher

Receiver Darryl Shine, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound prospect from Jones (Orlando, Fla.)/Fullerton CC, Calif., has agree to sign with Temple's recruiting Class of 2010.

Wyoming, Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee State and Utah State also offered.

Shine caught 34 passes for 548 yards and three touchdowns during the 2009 season.

Florida pledges signal-caller Tyler Murphy for Class of 2010

Quarterback Tyler Murphy, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect from Wethersfield HS (Wethersfield, Conn.), has accepted a Class of 2010 scholarship offer to play for the Gators.

Murphy decommitted from an earlier pledge to Temple. He was also offered by Syracuse and drew interest from Connecticut and Mississippi State.

"I was told I was being brought down with the potential to be offered," Murphy told ESPN affiliate Web site GatorCountry.com. "I just kept my fingers crossed the whole time and tried to make the best impression I could. Things just worked out and I couldn't be more excited for the opportunity."

Murphy passed for 1,124 yards and nine touchdowns, and rushed for 1,213 yards and 15 scores as a senior.

Five prospects sign with Temple during early period

Temple has added five players during the early signing period, including Brandon Smith, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound former Michigan linebacker, and Rod Streater, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound wide receiver from Alfred State CC, N.Y.

The Owls also signed cornerback Zamel Johnson from Hofstra (discontinued program), 6-foot-6 receiver Deon Miller and 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end Aaron Hush. Both Miller and Hush originally chose Temple in 2009, but then attended Fork Union Military Academy, Va.

Smith, originally from New Brunswick, N.J., redshirted at Michigan in 2008 and then started once and played in 11 games for the Wolverines during 2009 as a redshirt freshman. He will sit out the 2010 season as a transfer. Streater, who is from Burlington Township (Burlington, N.J., caught 24 passes for 540 yards and six touchdowns during 2009 at Alfred State.

Temple has also picked up a commitment from Martin Wallace, a 6-foot-6, 285-pound offensive lineman from Beacon School (New York, N.Y.) for the Class of 2010. He is transferring from Northeastern (discontinued program) and will be eligible immediately in the fall.

Defensive back-wide receiver Zach Dunston from Green Run (Virginia Beach, Va.) has pledged to Marshall for the Class of 2010.

He was offered by Louisville, Temple and Kent State.

Anthony Holmes of Harrisburg High (Harrisburg, Pa.)/Milford Academy (New Berlin, NY), who had recently decommitted from the Temple Owls, is now set for the Zips.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Holmes also has an offer from Western Kentucky.

Defensive end Josh Alexander picks Big East Huskies

Connecticut has snared a Class of 2010 pledge from Josh Alexander, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound defensive end/linebacker from Westlake (Waldorf, Md.).

Among his other offers were Maryland, North Carolina State, Temple and New Mexico.

"I'm just happy to be in this situation," he told the Harford Courant. "I feel very blessed. I just love Coach Edsall and how faithful he is to his players. When they come in they change in a lot of ways. He instills discipline."

"Coach Edsall man, I just love him. He was the only coach I felt kept it 100 (honest). I didn't feel like the same with the other coaches."

Upper Darby linebacker Niyi Adewole has picked Temple

The Owls have a commitment from linebacker Niyi Adewole of Upper Darby HS (Upper Darby, Pa.) for the Class of 2010.

Adewole (6-foot-2, 220-pounds), originally from Nigeria, was also considering Akron, Buffalo, Columbia and Vanderbilt.
