ESPNU 150 athlete Keenan Allen selects Alabama Crimson Tide

Four-star athlete Keenan Allen of Northern Guilford (Greensboro, NC) has given a commitment to head coach Nick Saban and the Tide.

Recruited by Alabama as a receiver, Allen is rated No. 85 among ESPNU 150 prospects nationally in the Class of 2010. He also considered California, Clemson, North Carolina, Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Several other programs including Duke, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina State, Wake Forest and West Virginia also offered.

ESPN's Billy Tucker said of the news, "This is a great out-of-state get for the Tide as Allen is one of the top athletes in the country and extremely versatile. He lines up everywhere for his high school squad but feel he will start his career off at receiver in Tuscaloosa and also be a presence on special teams."

"He seems to keep with the trend of ESPNU 150 receivers in recent years with tall frames but fluid and smooth movement skills. He is very natural and comfortable around the ball as a pass catcher; has soft hands with a wide catch-radius. Allen has big play ability with the ball in his hands as well which makes him very dynamic. He can elude in the open field with good shake, stop-start skill and vision; builds speed but top-end is good."

"The vision we referred to also allows him to be very effective as a returner. His excellent ball skills, great range and size will provide Alabama's defensive coaches depth at safety as well. A great pick up for Alabama as Allen's versatility is invaluable to a college roster."

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Allen is the 22nd pledge for Alabama.
