340-pound lineman Spencer Region picks Auburn Tigers for 2011

From Cullman, Ala., mammoth offensive lineman Spencer Region has given the Tigers a commitment for the Class of 2011 over Alabama.

The 6-foot-5 Region also considered early offers from Florida State, Mississippi, Wake Forest and Alabama-Birmingham.

"It was a hard decision," Region told ESPN affiliate Web site AuburnUndercover.com. "A lot of things changed with my heart at Alabama. Due to some stuff that was said and done, I just knew Auburn was my place. They made my decision easy. I'm just glad I'm part of the Auburn family now."

He joins receiver Izauea Lanier of East Mississippi CC, Miss., as 2011 pledges for Auburn.

Hargrave Military Academy (Chatham, Va.) defensive lineman Mike Thomas will likely walk-on with the Rebels, ESPN affiliate Web site InsideTheGrove.com reports.

Thomas originally signed with Ole Miss' Class of 2009 as a three-star recruit out of Saint Paul's Episcopal (Mobile, Ala.).

6-foot-2 wide receiver Vincent Sanders of Noxubee County (Macon, Miss.) has signed with the SEC Rebels for the Class of 2010.

Florida State, Mississippi State, Alabama, West Virginia, Texas Tech and Arkansas had also offered Sanders.

The 6-foot-7, 320-pound Robinson's other offers were Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, LSU, North Carolina, Southern Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama-Birmingham.

Alabama has landed touted 5-foot-11, 195-pound defensive back, Dequan Menzie of Copiah-Lincoln CC, Miss., for the Class of 2010.

Originally from Carver (Columbus, Ga.), Menzie was also sought by Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, North Carolina and Mississippi State, among many others.

"I'm excited, man. It was everything about Alabama, as soon as I stepped on campus," Menzie told the Mobile Press-Register. "If my mom is happy, I'm happy."

He was also considering offers from Tennessee, Alabama-Birmingham and South Carolina.

Ole Miss scores four-star cornerback Tony Grimes

Highly-coveted senior Tony Grimes (Hollywood, Calif./Hills) has committed to Mississippi over Michigan and Maryland, ESPN affiliate InsideTheGrove.com reports.

"I had two good trips to Michigan and Maryland there's just something about Ole Miss that stuck with me. I like the other schools but I think Ole Miss beats them out and that's where I belong," he said.

West Virginia, Oregon, Ohio State, South Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Texas Tech, Iowa, Miami-FL, Purdue and Wisconsin among others also recruited the 6-foot, 170-pound talent.

Rebels capture three-star defensive end Carlos Thompson

Three-star prospect Carlos Thompson of Simmons School (Hollandale, Miss.), has chosen Mississippi for the Class of 2010.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound standout chose Ole Miss over Mississippi State, Baylor, Memphis, North Carolina, Southern Mississippi and Vanderbilt.

"He really liked the atmosphere at Ole Miss," said his dad and high school coach Carlos Thompson Sr. "He looked at the depth chart, saw he would have a chance to contribute pretty soon and just really got along with coach (Houston) Nutt, coach (Tyrone) Nix and coach (Terry) Price," the Clarion-Ledger reports.

He was a Second Team Class 2A All-State selection as a senior.

Prior to his senior season, Thompson posted an electronically-timed 4.95 40-yard dash, 4.55 20-yard shuttle, 25-inch vertical, 38-foot power throw and 89.16 SPARQ.
