UCLA snares ESPNU 150 outside linebacker Aramide Olaniyan

Four-star OLB Aramide Olaniyan (Woodberry Forest, Va.) has become the latest commitment to the Bruins' growing Class of 2010, ESPN's JC Shurburtt reports. Once set for Duke, Olaniyan picked UCLA over the Blue Devils, Michigan, North Carolina and Virginia.

"UCLA was the only school I visited where I didn't second guess anything! It was an easy decision the combination of athletics were unmatched," he said.

Several other programs including Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Maryland, Stanford, Notre Dame, Auburn, Clemson, Tennessee, Florida State and Boston College also pursued the 6-foot-2, 200-pounder.

ESPN's Billy Tucker added, "We've been intrigued by Olaniyan since we first evaluated his junior film and saw him terrorize offensive backfields as a 200-pound defensive lineman. While he didn't project high at a definitive position, we saw a great talent, one who probably wouldn't last under the radar as a Duke commitment."

"This is a very good pickup for UCLA as they show its national range plucking Olaniyan out of Virginia, the No. 10 OLB on the ESPNU 150. He's an impressive athlete with a tall and long, rangy frame coupled with great speed on the perimeter. He has striking first-step quickness off the snap and makes a lot of plays near the line of scrimmage with his reach and closing burst. Will need to add some size to hold his base at the point of attack and remain durable as a Pac-10 linebacker but could see early playing time in heavy pressure packages."

"It's been a good week in Westwood for Neuheisel as he's landed both a top-10 defensive and offensive prospect with Olaniyan and running back Jordon James (Corona, Calif.) last Thursday. The Bruins now have four ESPNU 150 prospects committed for 2010 and a deep overall class."

"This trip sets them apart. I didn't know what to expect," he told the St. Petersburg Times. "I liked it. I found out a lot about their defensive scheme. Their defensive coordinator, (former USF assistant) Wally Burnham, wants faster linebackers. I would fit perfectly in that scheme."

At the Orlando Nike Combine he posted an electronically-timed 4.94 40-yard dash, 4.98 20-yard shuttle, 34.2-inch vertical and 38-foot power throw.
