2011 lineman Brendon Austin has Arizona, Notre Dame in the mix

Junior offensive tackle Brendon Austin (Parker, Colo./Chaparral) has received a written scholarship offer from Arizona and verbal offer from Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-6 prospect was already holding offers from Colorado, Stanford, Kansas State and Colorado State.

Several other programs including Arkansas, Kansas and California are expressing strong interest.

Austin was named to the All-Colorado First Team Class 5A All-State team as a junior.

Three-star offensive tackle Matthew Jakubiec (Anaheim, Calif./Servite), an Arizona verbal commitment, did not sign with the Wildcats and is likely headed to junior college, according to ESPN affiliate Web site WildcatSportsReport.com.

Daxx Garman makes early pledge to the Arizona Wildcats

Class of 2011 quarterback Daxx Garman (Jones, Okla.) has committed to sign with Arizona next February, according to ESPN affiliate Web site WildcatSportsReport.com.

The 6-foot-1 prospect is expected to transfer to Carroll (Southlake, Texas).

North Carolina also extended an early scholarship offer to Garman.

In a shocker, Josh Shirley picks the UCLA Bruins

Four-star outside linebacker Josh Shirley (Fontana, Calif./Kaiser) announced that he'll commit to UCLA, ESPN's Greg Biggins reports.

Shirley, who never visited the Bruins, named USC, Washington, Miami-FL and Arizona as his finalists going into Wednesday.

"This is where my heart always was," Shirley said. "This decision really weighed on me and I didn't get much sleep last night. I talked about it with my family and I just felt like UCLA was the best place for me."

Four-star outside linebacker Shaydon Akuna of Kapolei, Hawaii, has signed with the Beavers for the Class of 2010.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Akuna also had offers from Oregon, Florida State, Arkansas, California, Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, West Virginia and Hawaii.

Cathedral's Anthony Jefferson joins the Bruins' band-wagon

Rated as a three-star defensive back prospect, Anthony Jefferson of Cathedral (Los Angeles, Calif.) has signed with UCLA for the Class of 2010. Jefferson (6-foot-2, 180-pounds) picked the Bruins over Arizona, Oregon and California.

"I'm really excited to be a Bruin," Jefferson told ESPN's Greg Biggins. "I really think they have what it takes to turn the program around and I'm looking forward to being a part of that. UCLA is close to home and it means a lot to me that my friends and family will be able to come and watch me play."

He was also offered by Arizona State, Oklahoma, San Diego State, Tennessee, Southern California and Washington.

Cowboys lasso ESPNU 150 Watch List quarterback J.W. Walsh

Junior signal-caller J.W. Walsh (Denton, Texas/Guyer) committed to sign with Oklahoma State's Class of 2011 late Monday night, ESPN affiliate Web site InsideTexas.com reports.

Walsh also had early scholarship offers from Arizona, Kansas and Houston. Regional powers Texas and Oklahoma were showing heavy interest.

He completed 185 of 286 attempts (64.7-percent) for 2,599 yards, 27 touchdowns and six interceptions as a junior. Walsh also carried 168 times for 1,554 yards (9.3 average) and 22 more scores.

As a sophomore, he amassed almost 2,000 total yards of offense and accounted for 14 touchdowns.

Walsh is the third Class of 2011 commitment for Oklahoma State joining offensive lineman Travis Cross (Plano, Texas/West) and defensive back Isaac Maselera (Glenpool, Okla.).

After taking trips to Washington and Oregon State, 6-foot-4, 275-pound defensive lineman Kirifi Taula of Servite (Anaheim, Calif.), has firmed his commitment to the Pac-10 Wildcats for the Class of 2010.

Among the four-star's many other offers were Arizona State, Nebraska, UCLA, New Mexico, San Diego State, San Jose State and Utah.

Touted defensive back Tre'Vante Porter rejoins the Red Raiders

Three-star prospect Tre'Vante Porter of Carl Albert (Midwest City, Okla.) has committed to Texas Tech's Class of 2010 for a second time after reopening his recruitment following coach Mike Leach's firing.

He visited with new coach Tommy Tuberville and looked at both Oklahoma and Arizona before staying with his original decision.

Porter was also offered by Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville and Vanderbilt, among others.

Sleeper quarterback Cameron Allerheiligen headed to Arizona

Cameron Allerheiligen from Keller, Texas, has committed to the Pac-10 Wildcats for the Class of 2010 following an official visit.

He also considered offers from Northern Illinois and Toledo.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect passed for 2535 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior.
