Three-star Cali QB Pete Thomas drops Sun Devils for Rams
Colorado State has snared Pete Thomas, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound quarterback from Valhalla (El Cajon, Calif.), for the Class of 2010.
Thomas switched his commitment from Arizona State. He decided to take a visit to Colorado State after the Sun Devils parted ways with offensive coordinator Rich Olson.
He was also recruited by Boston College, Maryland, Northwestern, North Carolina State and Harvard.
Thomas told ESPN's Greg Biggins, "Basically, when ASU let go of their offensive coordinator, Rich Olson, I decided to look at my options. Originally I was told by ASU that they would have a new coach hired within a week but then they came back and said it wouldn't be until January. I'm graduating in January so I couldn't afford to wait that long."
"I got in touch with Colorado State and they came in for a home visit. I then decided to take an official visit there this past weekend and I think it's just a perfect fit for me. They run a pro style offense that is well suited for me, I love the coaching staff, and I think I'll have a chance to get in there and play right away."
As a senior, Thomas completed 62 percent of his passes for 2,026 yards and 20 touchdowns. He passed for 3,169 yards and 28 touchdowns as a junior.

Four-star tight end Blake Barker drops Stanford for Harvard
Rated No. 11 among the nation's tight end prospects, Blake Barker of Buckingham Browne & Nichols (Cambridge, Mass.) has switched his Class of 2010 pledge from the Cardinal to Harvard.
Citing the combination of academics and distance in making his decision, the 6-foot-6, 240-pound Baker is now headed to the Ivy League.
ESPN's Craig Haubert said of the news, "A big recruiting story for Bean Town anyway broke as Harvard landed a talented top 15 tight end prospect in Blake Barker and was able to get him away from a BCS PAC-10 program."
"Barker will give the Harvard football staff some options in how they use him. This tall prospect will likely fit best as a tight end where he can use his size to be a nice red-zone target and with some work can also be a productive in-line blocker. While tight end may be the better fit he is also a solid defensive end prospect and possibly down the line if all else fails could be an offensive tackle. He could certainly contribute and help the Crimson offense at tight end, but his versatility will allow them to use him in the area of most need."
"Barker may not hail from a recruiting hot bed, but he is a good prospect and it was big that a FCS program like Harvard was able to keep him close to home. Stanford likely feels a sting from the loss, but will recover fine as they have recruited well at tight end. Not often does Harvard get a headline in the world of recruiting but they did today and Crimson fans are likely calling their buddies at Yale to let them know about it."
Among many others, he also has offers from Florida, Penn State, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, Purdue, Rutgers, Tennessee, Boston College, Syracuse, Virginia and Wake Forest.
Barker caught 22 passes for 450 yards and five touchdowns as a junior while also recording 12 sacks from his defensive end spot.

Quarterback Scott McCummings of Natick, Mass., has made a commitment to Connecticut and head coach Randy Edsall for the Class of 2010.
He also drew interest from Stanford and Harvard. Syracuse had offered, but withdrew its scholarship after filling the position.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound McCummings was an All-Bay State conference selection in 2008, passing for 1,232 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for 980 yards and 14 touchdowns despite being hampered in the final three games by a high ankle sprain.
UConn now has seven pledges.

Buffaloes land sleeper ESPNU 150 Watch List quarterback Nick Hirschman
ESPNU 150 Watch List quarterback Nick Hirschman of Los Gatos, Calif., has accepted a scholarship offer from Colorado for the Class of 2010. He was also offered by Harvard.
ESPN's Tom Luginbill said of the news, "Colorado may have gotten one of the bigger steals in this class as Hirschman has terrific upside for the multiple set scheme Dan Hawkins employs. He has size, arm strength, accuracy and with further development could become a powerful passer from within the pocket. This is a kid that we were a bit surprised did not get more attention than he's gotten to this point, but that is Colorado's gain now."
As a junior, Hirschman completed 119 of 192 attempts (62-percent) for 2,191 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Productive pass-catcher Trevor Peterson to the Broncos
Trevor Peterson, a 6-foot-3, 219-pound tight end prospect, has committed to sign with Boise State over scholarship offers from Utah, San Diego State, UC Davis and Harvard, writes the Idaho Press-Tribune. He said of the move, "I took an unofficial visit about three weeks ago and really like it. Peterson added, "I like what Boise State does, moving their tight ends all around." Additionally, it appears that factors off the field played into his decision, "After talking to the coaches of those other teams, I imagined what it would be like playing for them, and I kept going back to Boise State and thinking it was the best fit. I like the outdoors stuff you can do in Boise - fly fishing, mountain biking, hiking - I love it all." Programs such as Oregon, Oregon State, California and Washington were also showing some interest in Peterson. Last fall, he hauled in 54 passes for 964 yards (17.9 average) and eight touchdowns lining up primarily at wide receiver.
