A 6-foot-3, 220-pound defensive end prospect, Vince Buhagiar of Clayton Valley (Concord, Calif.) has accepted a Class of 2010 offer from San Jose State.

San Jose State adds pledge from tight end Travis Raciti

From College Park (Pleasant Hill, Calif.), Travis Raciti has chosen the Spartans for the Class of 2010.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Raciti was recruited as a tight end.

The Contra Costa Times reports that he needed just eight minutes to give coach Mike MacIntyre his commitment during a meeting Sunday morning, "The meeting was at 10:15 and we were out of it at 10:23. He asked what other programs were talking to me, and I said 'Coach, I'll be completely upfront with you. If you guys give me an offer, I'll sign on.'"

Derron Smith picks the WAC Bulldogs

From Banning HS (Banning, Calif.), safety Derron Smith has accepted an offer from Fresno State for the Class of 2010.

The 6-foot-0, 195-pound prospect was also recruited by Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico State, San Diego State and San Jose State.

"All my visits were great but this one really stood out," Smith told ESPN's Greg Biggins. "I felt so comfortable with the players and coaches there and I knew it was the best place for me. I actually committed Saturday night. I didn't need to wait that long to know it was the best spot for me and where I would fit in the best."

As a junior, he threw for 1,214 yards and nine touchdowns while also rushing for 1,094 yards and eight more scores.

On defense, Smith registered 87 tackles, nine tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one interception. He also handled kicking and punting duties.

Cali sleeper Chad Dashnaw hears from USC

Three-star quarterback Chad Dashnaw (San Pedro, Calif./Narbonne) met with new USC head coach Lane Kiffin who plans to evaluate the 6-foot-4 senior's film, ESPN affiliate Web site WeAreSC.com reports.

"I really enjoyed getting to talk to Coach Kiffin," Dashnaw said. "I really liked him; he seems like a great guy."

Nevada, San Jose State and Portland State have also been in contact with Dashnaw. Additionally, Narbonne coach Byron Moore said that UCLA is also expressing interest.

Dashnaw completed 235 of 325 attempts (65-percent) for 3,475 yards, 31 touchdowns and 12 interceptions as a senior. He also rushed for 400 yards and nine more scores earning league MVP, all-state, all-area and all-city recognition.

The Spartans have gained a commitment from Keith Smith, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker from Charter Oak (Covina, Calif.), for the Class of 2010.

Among his other offers were Colorado, Utah, UTEP, Nevada and Air Force.
