Talented offensive lineman Troy Baker to enroll early at Baylor

Three-star offensive lineman Troy Baker, who will graduate early from Connally (Waco, Texas) in December, has signed a financial aid contract and will enroll in Baylor for the spring 2010 semester and go through spring drills with the Bears, Baylor head coach Art Briles announced.

The 6-7, 300-pound Baker originally pledged to Texas Tech. Among his offers were Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Wake Forest and Iowa State.

"We're extremely excited and proud that Troy is going to be part of the Baylor family," Briles said. "Not only for his athletic skills, which are tremendous, but more importantly for the type of person he is. He's an exceptional student, and the type of guy who is a great teammate."

A National Honor Society member, Baker ranks fourth in his class at Connally.

"Troy has a lot of passion for a player at a high level," Briles added. "He is certainly going to contribute to this program continuing to improve. It's also a great bonus to add a local player; it's good for Waco and it's good for his family and the people who respect Troy."

Junior Tobias Singleton has three early offers

Class of 2011 ESPNU 150 Watch List wide receiver Tobias Singleton (Madison, Miss./Central) is currently holding scholarship offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss, ESPN affiliate Web site BullDawgJunction.com reports.

Additionally, programs including Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Texas Tech are also showing interest.

Singleton shared what he's seeking, "I am looking for a program that passes and runs the ball. I know I have to improve my blocking and learn to stay on my blocks more, and that is my main weakness right now. But I like to run the ball now and then, too. So I am looking for a school that does both well."

This fall, he's caught 43 passes for 627 yards and 10 touchdowns while also rushing for another score.

6-foot-5, 310-pound offensive lineman Eric Lawson of Olive Branch, Miss., has given his pledge to Texas Tech.

He game the Avalanche-Journal reasons for his decision, "How my mom feels about it, how my coaches felt about the school and of course how I felt. I like the winning tradition."

The Red Raiders now have 21 commitments for the Class of 2010.

Tulsa lands three-star running back Ja'Terian Douglas

Running back Ja'Terian Douglas, who gained 2036 yards and 28 touchdowns as a junior for Lamar (Arlington, Texas), has committed to the Golden Hurricane.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound standout picked Tulsa over Oklahoma State. Among others were Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, SMU, UTEP and Louisiana Tech.

He rushed for 2,036 yards and 28 touchdowns last fall earning Class 5A All-State recognition.

Tulsa now has 18 pledges for the Class of 2010.

Wolverines enter the mix for Jalen Grimble

Class of 2011 ESPNU 150 Watch List defensive lineman Jalen Grimble (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) has received a scholarship offer from Michigan, ESPN's JC Shurburtt reports.

USC, UCLA, LSU, Stanford, Tennessee, Nebraska and Texas Tech amongst others have also offered the 6-foot-4, 255-pound junior.

Grimble is the cousin of Xavier Grimble, a senior tight end committed to USC. Xavier is the nation's No. 1-rated tight end in the ESPNU 150 and an Under Armour All-American.

Longhorns, Sooners could square off for junior Herschel Sims

Class of 2011 ESPNU 150 Watch List running back Herschel Sims (Abilene, Texas) spoke with ESPN affiliate Web site InsideTexas.com about the early stages of his recruitment.

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Baylor have extended scholarship offers but two schools already stand out for Sims.

"(Texas and Oklahoma) are pretty high. I love OU because they have put out the best running back in the NFL in Adrian Peterson so that shows that they know what to do with their running backs."

"Texas has also had some great running backs with Ricky Williams and Jamaal Charles even though they were different backs. Coach (Major) Applewhite played with Ricky Williams and knows a lot about running backs and how to coach them."

"Those are two great teams," he added. :It's not just about football either ? it's everything that both of those schools have to offer."

Sims has rushed for 731 yards (8.8 average) and 11 touchdowns and caught eight passes for 183 yards (22.9 average) and two more scores this fall.

Tulsa athlete Eric Bennett gives pledge to Razorbacks

Eric Bennett, a three-star athlete from Booker T. Washington (Tulsa, Okla.) has made a Class of 2010 commitment to play for Arkansas.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Bennett plays quarterback/defensive back as a prep. He is projected as a running back, wide receiver or defensive back in college.

Bennett chose the Razorbacks over Arizona, Texas Tech, Iowa State and Oregon State. He also has offers from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Tennessee.

Despite playing in just seven games due to a broken hand as a junior, Bennett rushed for 1,078 yards, threw for 1,168 yards and scored 26 total touchdowns.

The Razorbacks now have 14 pledges.

2011 standout athlete Cortez Davis commits to Clemson

ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect Cortez Davis Mainland (Daytona Beach, Fla.) has accepted a Class of 2011 scholarship offer from the Tigers.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Davis, who was recruited as a defensive back, also holds offers from Miami-Florida, West Virginia, LSU, Florida State, Texas Tech and Oregon.

As a sophomore he collected 43 stops and four interceptions.

He joins teammate running back Marlin Lane as early pledges for Clemson. The Tigers now have four 2011 ESPNU 150 Watch List prospects.
