There were 23 head-coaching changes in Division I-A college football two years ago, but only 10 programs have new bosses in 2006. As we prepare for the kickoff of this year's college football season, one glaring trend is the amount of premier jobs that are in jeopardy.

Here's a look at the five most high-profile head coaches currently on the proverbial "hot seat" and what each must do to save his respective job:

1. Chuck Amato, NC State
Expectations might be too high but fans in Raleigh, N.C. do not agree. Amato's club is 12-11 overall and 6-10 in ACC play the past two seasons. The quarterback situation has been in shambles since Philip Rivers' departure, and there appears to be no solution in sight. When the headliner on offense is a center (Leroy Harris), personnel issues obviously exist.
