Safeties make Miami secondary the best of '06
From Miami to Arizona, Todd McShay breaks down the top secondaries of 2006.
1. Miami Hurricanes
No team in the nation has talent comparable with that Miami boasts at safety. Brandon Meriweather is the leader of the defense at free safety. He is a playmaker when the ball is in the air, and he also fills hard versus the run. Meriweather is the returning leader in total tackles (a career-high 115 a year ago) and interceptions (three). Fellow starter Kenny Phillips emerged as one of the premier defensive freshmen in the country last season, when he notched 88 tackles as the full-time starting strong safety.
