Leinart, Bush, White power nation's top backfield
With Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush and LenDale White returning, it's no surprise that USC has the top-rated backfield.
1. USC Trojans
The Trojans have more talent in their backfield than several NFL teams. Norm Chow is no longer around to pull the strings, but new coordinator Lane Kiffin couldn't be walking into a better situation. Quarterback Matt Leinart is coming off of elbow surgery, but he is throwing in summer camp and should be 100 percent by the opening kickoff at Hawaii Sept. 3. The left-hander is a cerebral, poised and accurate passer. While not a threat to run, Leinart avoids pressure and does a good job of buying second-chance passing opportunities.
The "Thunder and Lightning" running back tandem of LenDale White (thunder) and Reggie Bush (lightning) is the best of its kind in the nation. White's ability to grind it out between the tackles allows Bush to play a more versatile role. White and Bush rushed for a combined 2,011 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2004. No. 3 RB Desmond Reed averaged 5.6 yards on 31 carries last season and would be a starter on many teams.
