George O'Leary's hair had whitened long before he arrived at Central Florida, but his aging process was just beginning. O'Leary lost each of his first 13 games as Golden Knights coach, and it appeared the program might never see the light again.

There was already speculation O'Leary wouldn't get a third season at UCF if he didn't win this year.

"With coaches, it's like every time you lose, you die a little," O'Leary said. "It's like I told the staff, 'There's only so many nine lives and we've outdone them. We need to move on.'"
