SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A schedule many thought would cripple Notre Dame has been the perfect start to the Charlie Weis era.
For two weeks, Weis didn't lack methods of motivation. For two weeks, he had the players on a down-to-the-minute schedule. For two weeks, he had complete control. The result was the first Notre Dame team ever to open a season with two road wins over ranked opponents.
After stunning Michigan at the Big House, the 10th-ranked Fighting Irish returned to a campus buzzing with excitement. Notre Dame plays its only September home game Saturday against Michigan State, but Weis is hoping to get his team to kickoff without any interference.
