That new coach thing worked out pretty well in Chestnut Hill last season.
Coach Jeff Jagodzinski guided Boston College to its first 11-win season since 1940; earned the Eagles' highest ranking since they were No. 1 in 1942; won the most games ever by any first-year ACC coach, and won the league's Atlantic Division crown.
Along the way, the Eagles scored a nationally televised come-from-behind win at Virginia Tech that goes in the pantheon with some Doug Flutie reels; they beat Miami for the first time since that "Miracle in Miami" in 1984; and finished 10th in the Associated Press' final poll, their highest final ranking since 1984.
Now, we'll see how BC does with that new quarterback thing.
Matt Ryan has gone, taking with him 4,507 yards, 31 touchdowns and the ACC Player-of-the-Year trophy, cashing it all in for the highest paying rookie contract ever in the NFL. Popular Coach Jags turned Ryan and a high octane BC offense loose last year in ways that it's hard to imagine his predecessor, Tom O'Brien ever doing.
Then again, Jagodzinski won all those games with the team that O'Brien built, adding an eighth consecutive bowl victory to O'Brien's already impressive streak.
