COACH AND PROGRAM
Tulsa has a new quarterback and returns only five defensive starters, Houston and SMU start over with a new coaching staff and Tulane needs to replace a 2,000-yard rusher. Could this be the time for UTEP to make a serious run at the Conference USA Western Division title? "It will be interesting," UTEP coach Mike Price said. "The thing I've found about this league is that it's so competitive top to bottom. I don't really know where we fit right now. It's nice to have your quarterback coming back, and we have that. We've just been so concerned about our own team because we have five new coaches." That's not just coach speak, either. In all reality, the Miners have enough of their own concerns to address to be even thinking about winning the division at this point. "I'm not worrying about speculating about what's going on in the future," Price said. "I'm just concerned with what's going on right now, today. That's kept me more grounded and more into who we are and what we're doing."
