Team preview: Auburn
The Blue Ribbon College Football Yearbook previews the 2007 Auburn Tigers, exclusively on Insider.
Last season, only one team beat national champion Florida. Only two teams beat Sugar Bowl champion LSU, and one of them was Florida. The other factor in that equation was an Auburn team that finished 11-2 and ranked No. 8 in the final coaches' poll. Yet for all that success, the Tigers seemed to spend little time celebrating those big wins and more time focusing on home losses to Arkansas and Georgia. "We were good enough to compete with anybody, but we just weren't quite good enough to get over the top in those two losses," Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said. "We had to play about as good we could play every week. We did that most of the time. In two games we didn't.'' If the Tigers weren't quite good enough to get over the top last season, it will be interesting to see how they manage with a young team that lost 22 seniors and returns only 12 starters, no proven specialists in the kicking game and 21 sophomores or freshmen on a post-spring depth chart that goes three deep at four positions.
