Isaiah Stanback a Trojan? That was a possibility for Washington's quarterback coming out of Garfield High School in Seattle. USC coach Pete Carroll, however, wanted Stanback to sign as "an athlete," while Stanback wanted guarantees he would be a quarterback. "He is an incredible athlete who has become a terrific quarterback," Carroll said. "I wish we could have gotten him."

Carroll, generally considered the nation's most skilled recruiter, added that it was "just my shortcoming and not seeing through the things that would make him the fantastic quarterback that he is." Carroll even added that he believes Stanback has NFL potential.

Washington has jumped to an impressive -- and profoundly surprising -- 4-1 start without the benefit of winning the turnover battle. The Huskies have forced just six turnovers, tied for the fewest in the conference with Oregon, which has played only four games. With three interceptions and six fumbles, they are minus-three in turnovers, which ranks eighth in the conference. Turnovers, a USC specialty, figure to be critical in the Huskies' visit to Troy on Saturday.
