Quarterback play can affect a team's season more so than any other position. Texas and USC had great teams a year ago but it also was no coincidence that Vince Young and Matt Leinart squared off in the Rose Bowl with the BCS national title on the line.

Quarterback uncertainty was one of college football's biggest themes early last year. However, as we approach Week 3 of the 2006 season there is not single team ranked in the AP Top 25 with a legitimate quarterback controversy on its hand. What we do see, however, is a big disparity in talent and experience. The following is an early assessment of college football's best and worst at the quarterback position:
