The opportunity is there every Saturday. Some players seize it. Others let it slide away. Here's a look at the players who shined or slipped in Week 2:

Stock Up
Buster Davis, ILB, Florida State
Davis has embraced his new leadership role on a talented but inexperienced Seminoles' defense. With Ernie Sims and A.J. Nicholson now in the NFL, Davis also has taken over as the unit's top playmaker. The 5-foot-10, 240-pound senior was a human vacuum in the opener at Miami, recording 12 tackles (3½ for loss) and two sacks. Just five days later, Davis came up huge with a fourth-quarter interception that spared the 'Noles from what would have been a humiliating home loss to Troy.

Chase Daniel, QB, Missouri
It was hard to get excited about Daniel's school-record five touchdown passes versus Murray State in the opener. But combine that performance with his 332 total yards and two touchdowns (one rushing, one passing) versus a much more respectable Ole Miss defense, and there's reason for folks in Columbia to be optimistic. Daniel doesn't run like Brad Smith, but his combination of adequate mobility and far greater passing efficiency makes Daniel a better fit in coach Gary Pinkel's version of the spread offense. Daniel gives Missouri a legitimate shot to challenge Nebraska for the Big 12 North title this year.
