1. Joe Paterno
Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? At the age of 78, coming off a 4-7 record in 2004, Paterno understood that he needed to incorporate more freshmen and give offensive coordinator Galen Hall more control. The result so far is a 9-1 overall record, including pole position in the Big Ten with a 6-1 conference record.
2. Rich Rodriguez, West Virginia
After parting ways with 2004 standouts Rasheed Marshall, Adam "Pacman" Jones, Chris Henry, K.J. Harris and Adam Lehnortt, the Mountaineers were supposed to have a rebuilding year in 2005. Instead, Rodriguez them sitting safely atop the Big East standings with an undefeated record in the conference with only two games remaining -- home against Pittsburgh and at South Florida. West Virginia's only loss of the season was against then-No. 3 Virginia Tech. Rodriguez also is grooming a star in the making at quarterback in freshman Pat White.
