Terps' defense leads in upset

In Maryland's upset victory over the Cal Golden Bears at College Park, it was evident from the outset that the Terps were looking to make amends for a bad loss at Middle Tennessee State the previous week and that Cal just didn't get the wake-up call for the 9 a.m. PST kickoff.
For the Terps on defense, senior LBs Dave Philistin and Moise Fokou were the key headliners.
Philistin led the Terps' defense with 13 tackles, one of which was behind the line of scrimmage. Fokou recorded Maryland's first sack of the season early in the first quarter and added another takedown of Cal signal-caller Kevin Riley later.
