Max protection helps Georgia win SEC
For the second straight week, my Big Board features one newcomer from both sides of the ball. But the rest of the top 25 stays the same as bowl season nears.
A junior college transfer, Slay really came into his own this season with the Red Raiders. A rugged enforcer with a linebacker's mentality, Slay established a Big 12 record with eight forced fumbles. He also paced the Red Raiders' defense with 101 total tackles (68 solo). At 6-3½ and 210 pounds, Slay is a lights-out hitter and has the physical skills to wow the NFL brass at the combine and individual workouts.
Jean-Gilles returns to the Big Board after a solid showing against the talent-laden LSU interior defensive line. The 6-4, 350- pound offensive lineman has maintained a level of consistency throughout his impressive college career in Athens, Ga., that definitely makes you stand up and take notice.
Remember, the Big Board will remain fluid, with some changes taking place each week even though the bowl games don't begin until Dec. 20. Every day I'm studying the prospects, which is reflected in the moves you see up and down the board as well as any new faces that may appear suddenly during any given week.
