• The Gamecocks were sloppy under sophomore QB Connor Shaw during the first quarter against East Carolina, and lack of communication, mental errors and three first-quarter fumbles led to a stagnant offense. Senior Stephen Garcia entered the game in the second quarter and sparked the attack with his legs, rushing for two touchdowns. Coach Steve Spurrier has announced Garcia will start this week, and his experience and athleticism will give the Gamecocks the best chance to win in a hostile environment.
