Oregon vs. LSU

Both LSU and Oregon go into their Week 1 showdown short-handed.

Oregon offense vs. LSU defense
• Talk all you want about the fast-paced nature of Chip Kelly's offense, its unique motions and pre-snap formations, and the speed of skill guys such as LaMichael James, Kenjon Barner and Josh Huff. But the reality is that Oregon's offense is only as good as its trigger man, QB Darron Thomas. When Thomas makes good decisions, the Ducks are nearly unstoppable. However, there were times last season when he faltered (the California and Auburn games stand out), and he was particularly bothered by disciplined defensive front sevens. Thomas surely learned from those experiences, but he's not exactly easing into things in 2011. He'll face a talented, physical and fundamentally sound LSU defensive line that should provide one of the toughest tests of the season right off the bat.
