Virginia Tech at North Carolina

North Carolina's depleted running game faces a tough test with Virginia Tech coming to town in Week 11.

Virginia Tech offense vs. North Carolina defense
• Virginia Tech's run-heavy offense is capable of wearing down a North Carolina defensive front that lacks ideal depth. Hokies RBs Darren Evans, Ryan Williams and David Wilson share carries, and QB Tyrod Taylor is the team's leading rusher, meaning Tech can stay committed to the ground game and keep everyone's legs fresh. All three backs run hard and should have more success running inside as the game progresses. Tar Heels DTs Quinton Coples and Tydreke Powell can hold their own against a relatively undersized Hokies interior offensive line, but there isn't much depth behind them and Coples and Powell won't be as effective when they start to tire. Virginia Tech should have even more success running off tackle, thanks in part to 272-pound TE Andre Smith, who is an effective drive-blocker who can seal smaller UNC DEs Donte Paige-Moss, Linwan Euwell and Tim Jackson. Smith also is big enough to cover up SLB Bruce Carter, who at times takes too long getting off blocks and sometimes puts himself out of position when trying to run around blocks.
