Purdue at Notre Dame

Two inexperienced quarterbacks will battle it out when Purdue heads to Notre Dame for Brian Kelly's Fighting Irish debut.

Purdue offense vs. Notre Dame defense

• Purdue runs a multiple-formation offense that features a lot of underneath throws and screens. Also look for offensive coordinator Gary Nord to employ a healthy dose of bootlegs and waggles in order to get QB Robert Marve outside the pocket. Marve is a good athlete and comfortable throwing on the run. Moving outside the pocket will cut his reads in half and should buy him time. It will be interesting to see if Marve is rusty and/or hesitant in his first regular-season action since transferring from Miami after the 2008 season and then tearing the ACL in his right knee during a May 2009 flag football game with friends. There might be some pressure to keep up with what's expected to be a fast-paced, high-scoring Notre Dame offense, but the Irish pass defense should again be exploitable.
