Kentucky offense vs. East Carolina defense
True freshman QB Randall Cobb replaced Mike Hartline after the eighth game of the season, and his ability to make plays with his feet added a new dimension to the Wildcat offense. However, he underwent knee surgery in early December and he's listed as doubtful, so Hartline is expected to step back into the starting lineup. While he has actually thrown the ball slightly better than Cobb, Hartline isn't nearly as mobile -- he has completed just 54.6 percent of his passes and has thrown eight touchdowns compared to seven interceptions. Don't expect him to have a big day throwing the ball against East Carolina, either. Pirates CBs Travis Simmons, Dekota Marshall and Emanuel Davis can limit the production of an injury-depleted Kentucky receiving corps. Their ability to match up on the outside should cause Hartline to hold onto the ball longer than usual. So even though Kentucky's pass protection has been sound for the most part, the Pirates should get to Hartline at times. Watch relentless RDE C.J. Wilson working against LOT Garry Williams, in particular. In addition, only four FBS teams have intercepted more passes than East Carolina, so Hartline must make sound decisions when the pass protection starts to break down.
