Southern Miss offense vs. Troy defense
RB Damion Fletcher, who is averaging six yards per carry, is a good fit for the Golden Eagles' one-back shotgun spread formations, which stretch the defensive front horizontally. Though he weighs just 177 pounds, his offensive line does an excellent job of creating seams between the tackles for him, and he hits the hole going full speed. That's reason for Troy fans to be concerned. The Trojans' front four is admittedly active, but there isn't a great deal of size up front and it should have problems holding its ground. As a result, Fletcher should be able to get into space and force a talented linebacker corps to make plays in the open field. That's easier said than done, as Fletcher is a slippery runner with above-average elusiveness. In addition, the Golden Eagles can't lose track of QB Austin Davis, especially in the red zone. Davis has adequate mobility and he has rushed for nine touchdowns this year.
